CARMARTHEN CIRCUIT

 

The Carmarthen Circuit covered the three counties of Cardiganshire, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. 
The Great Sessions, as they were called rather than Assizes in Wales, were held twice a year at
Cardigan, Carmarthen and Haverfordwest. 
Sessions were also held for the Counties of the Towns of Carmarthen and Haverforwest at the same
time as the County Sessions.

 

27 confirmed and 2 probable executions resulted from 134 death sentences.

 

Cardiganshire.

7 confirmed executions have been traced.

The normal place of execution was Banc-y-Warren, a hillside near Cardigan.

 

Carmarthenshire.

17 confirmed executions have been traced plus 1 probable one.

Executions were carried out at Pensarn, near Carmarthen.

 

Pembrokeshire.

3 confirmed executions and 1 possible one have been traced.  These were
carried out at the Bowling Green, Haverfordwest.
