Female hangings worldwide 1988 - date.

This is a listing of the 70 reported and confirmed female hangings during the period September 1988 to January 2008. Fifty three of these women died for murder, 11 for drug offences, 2 for prostitution, 1 for brothel keeping and 1 for “moral corruption”. The crimes of the other two are not known.
There were no accurate details for Iraq although it is known that a large number of women were hanged there during the reign of Saddam Hussein. One woman has been hanged there since (06/09/06).
There have almost certainly been further, unreported hangings in Egypt, Iran and Singapore. According to government figures released in 2005, Malaysia hanged at least 5 women between 1981 and 2001.
No details of names/ages were given for the 7 women hanged in South Korea.
Iran uses the short drop style of hanging and may also carry out the execution in public usually by suspension from a truck crane. It is possible that Jordan also uses the short drop method.
The “long drop” method of hanging is currently used by Botswana, Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Malaysia & Singapore and was used in South Korea and South Africa.
