Numbering is from the first post-Furman execution, that of Gary Gilmore in Utah on January 17, 1977.

24 men were put to death in 5 states during 2023 all by lethal injection.  8 were executed in Texas, 6 in Florida, 4 in Oklahoma, 4 in Missouri and 2 in Alabama.
18 men were executed in 6 states during 2022, up from 16 men executed in 5 states during 2021.
Texas and Oklahoma each carried out 5 executions, Alabama 2, Arizona 3, Missouri 2, Mississippi 1.

Just 21 new death sentences were passed in 2023.

2,331 inmates were on death row as of January 2023, including 50 women and those sentenced by the US military and the Federal Government.

All executions are carried out for 1st degree murder and are by lethal injection unless otherwise indicated after the prisoner's name.
